Summer Splurge vs. Save

When it comes to splurge-worthy items for summer, stick to classic items that you can wear for years to come. I don't think Ray-Bans will be going out of style anytime soon! Items to save on include trendy pieces like statement earrings, as well as items that can get dirty easily like white jeans and beach bags.

Splurge //
Ray-Ban Aviators
Ray-Ban Clubmasters
Laroche Posay Sunscreen (layers well under makeup and doesn't break me out!)
Jack Rogers
Straw clutch
Lilly Pulitzer shift dress

Save //
White jeans
Beach bag
Statement earrings
Trendy sunglasses
J. Crew chino shorts (these are on sale throughout the summer)

Queens Campus Tour

My program's building. It was the first building in the city to get electricity.

In the fall I will be doing my Master's of Public Health at Queen's University, a medium-sized university located in Kingston, Ontario. On the weekend, I looked at several apartments and houses around the city with my future roommate. Kingston is full of old, historical buildings and some places can be quite run-down, but we managed to find some gems. Afterwards, I toured about the beautiful campus and admired the architecture. Obviously I had to load up on Queens gear at the bookstore ;)

Queens was not always my top choice for grad school. In fact, I added it to my list of schools at the last minute. However, once I received my acceptance, the thought of attending started to grow on me. I talked to a student in the program and she really sold it - small class sizes, professors who know your name, and a non-competitive atmosphere. The staff were warm, personable, and went out of their way to answer questions. This left me with a very good impression, especially since another school that I applied to was snobby and a bit secretive about the application process and the program itself. To top it all off, Kingston is such a cute town, filled with lots of restaurants, cafes, and a beautiful waterfront. I can't wait to move there to start the next chapter of my life and hopefully what will be my last degree!

Bright Summer Swimwear

Here is my honest review of Zaful's  swimwear. About a month ago, Zaful reached out to me to see if I was interested in picking out a few things from their website. I've always been curious to see what their products are like in real life, so I agreed. Since I'm travelling to Costa Rica in August, I picked out some bathing suits. I chose to keep things simple and stick with a plain, solid colored bikini and one piece swimsuit.

I was told shipping would take 3-7 day, which seemed too good to be true and it was - in reality, the package took a few weeks to arrive. However, when the products arrived, I was pleasantly surprised! The quality is much better than I expected, considering the price. I'd say that it's on par with Forever 21 or Zara.

Before placing my order, I researched the sizing extensively. Zaful allows users to post their reviews with measurements and pictures, so I looked for reviews written by people with similar body types to mine. The fit is pretty true size - both suits are a size small and I'm usually an XS or S. The red bikini bottoms are quite cheeky, so make sure to read the description before purchasing to ensure that you're comfortable with the level of coverage.

Overall, I was happy with the swimsuits! If you're looking for trendy, inexpensive swimwear and you don't mind waiting for shipping, give Zaful a try.

Summer Graduation Garden Party

Gingham Shirt:  Abercrombiesimilar) // Jeans:  Zara // Sandals:  Jack Rogers
Sunglasses:  Ray-Ban Aviators

On Saturday my mom hosted a party in celebration of my college graduation and acceptance to a Master's program. Originally I didn't want to have the party since I don't enjoy being the centre of attention. However, my mom seemed adamant about having the party, so I let her and my sister take the reigns and plan everything.

In the end the party ended up being a great success (thanks Mom!). My high school and college friends came, as well as my extended family, who kindly travelled from all over to attend. We spent the afternoon eating delicious catered food and ventured outdoors in to the garden once the sun came out. Everyone was beyond generous and spoiled me with gifts. I feel so blessed to have so many great people in my life.

A party planning book that my mom read recommended 12-16 bottles for a party of 24 (?!). To help use up some of the wine I made red and white sangria. The white sangria turned out the best and was a big hit. Here's the recipe!
-1 bottle of white wine (I used pinot grigio)
-half a cup of peach schnapps
-2 cans of lemon lime soda
-cut up fruit (I used one peach and a handful of strawberries)
