I'm Back + What I Hate About Blogging

Hello to anyone still reading this blog!

I took a looonng break from blogging during the middle of grad school. My main reason for doing this was due to a lack of photographer. My sister is an amateur photographer and took a lot of amazing photos for this blog, but when I moved away for grad school it was impossible for us to meet up once a week or even once a month to take photos. I attempted to connect with some local photographers but unfortunately I didn't find the right fit in terms of schedules and the quality of photos that I was aiming for.

So what's new?

Grad School
In December, I finished the Master of Public Health program at Queen's University with straight As. I'm super proud of myself for this accomplishment. There were many times when I wanted to quit the program, partially out of boredom, but I stuck with it. The highlight of grad school was connecting with an amazing group of friends. We all became close within a short period of time and I know that we will stay in touch for years to come.

The Word of Blogging and Influencers
Since I started this blog in 2016, the word of blogging and influencers has changed dramatically. We see bloggers calling themselves "influencers" and there is a lot less traffic to blogs compared to Instagram accounts. I miss the days when blogs were more like a personal diary rather than a venue to shell sponsored products. Obviously I understand that bloggers need to generate an income, but I feel a bit of "blogger fatigue" and I'm now a lot more skeptical of products that are promoted to me on social media. Recently, I unfollowed a lot of bloggers that I no longer found inspiring. I couldn't care less about laxative tea and meal-kits!

It's been refreshing to see bloggers like Meredith from The Style Scribe and Stephanie from The Girl Guide talk about shopping your closet. These ladies have gorgeous, classic closets and I enjoy seeing them rewear pieces that they've had for years! Now that I am in my mid-twenties, I want to continue to focus on building a classic wardrobe with timeless pieces that I will be able to wear for years to come.

Moving Forward
Since I've finished grad school, I've found myself with a lot of free time and I've been itching to return to blogging while I job hunt. I miss sharing sale finds, fashion trends, travels, general life updates, and connecting with readers. So, moving forward, I've decided to casually return to blogging. I won't be posting every day and I certainly won't be buying fast fashion pieces just so that I have a new piece of clothing to wear for a blog photoshoot. I won't be reactivating my Instagram account anytime soon and I am not focused on gaining a following. Rather, this will be more like an old school blog, where I share my interests for fun.

Here are some of my ideas for posts:
-Workwear - Now that I'm beginning my career, I'm focused on building my work wardrobe. I think that work style is tricky because you need to find a balance between your own unique style and the dress code and culture of the office. Also, some work pieces are insanely hard to shop for. I have an extremely hard time finding pants that fit! I'm excited to share what I wear to interviews and how my work style begins to develop.
-Meghan Markle - I am OBSESSED with Meghan Markle's style, so I was thinking of doing a weekly post about her style and outfits. One of my most popular blog posts is actually on Meghan's style!
-Beauty - Recently, I've gotten back into beauty (Sephora loves me rn). I like to thoroughly research products before I buy, so I will share my own reviews in hopes of informing your own purchases.
-Cocktail of the Month - I received a recipe book of gin cocktails for Christmas, so I am excited to test out some recipes and share my own variations.
-Sale Finds - I am a HUGE sale shopper. I would say that 80% of the items in my wardrobe are sale items. I don't like buying something full price when I know that I will be able to purchase it for less. I will continue to share my sale finds and tips for sale shopping.
-Classic Fashion - I have a mental list of classic items that I would like to add to my closet over the next 5-10 years. Many of these items are splurges (or investments as I like to call them haha), such as Celine sunglasses, Louis Vuitton and Goyard totes, and Chanel flats. However, they are classic for a reason and I will be putting a lot of thought into these purchases. I can't wait to share my first major designer purchases and thorough reviews of these items.
-Grad School - If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to share tips for applying to grad school, getting the grades to attend grad school, my grad school experience, and my experience in the field of public health.

If there's anything that you'd like to see on the blog, don't hesitate to let me know!

Also, if you have a blog that you'd like me to check out, leave a comment down below. One of my favourite parts of blogging is connecting with readers around the world who are also interested in fashion!

Looking forward to my return to blogging!
